1.0" Cunninghamia (Ancient China Fir) fossil plate, This specimen contains a single branchlet measuring 1.0" long. Tranquille shale was formed in an ancient lake. As diatoms in the lake bloomed and died, a fine layer of accumulated silt contributed to the preservation of these fossils.

These fossils where found in early Eocene (56 million to 47.8 million years ago) deposits of northern Washington state, United States.
