Carcharias dominguei was described as a new species in 2019 by Henri Cappetta, David Morrison, and Stéphane Adnet.

The teeth of Carcharias dominguei are characterized by a slender, elongated central cusp flanked by smaller lateral cusplets, giving them the distinctive appearance associated with modern sand tiger sharks. The teeth were adapted for grasping prey rather than slicing, consistent with the feeding style of sand tiger–type sharks.

There is a repair to the tip of this fossil, as they extremely fragile from this formation.
